In a nutshell: Cardiorespiratory fitness is recognised as an important marker of cardiovascular health. Currently it is the only major risk factor that is not routinely and regularly assessed in the clinical setting. This policy statement by the American Heart Association calls for the development of a national adult cardiorespiratory fitness registry for the US population. It also outlines how such a database could better inform national policy on physical activity and health.
