In a nutshell: A review by Public Health England has concluded that 1600 heart attacks and 4000 cases of diabetes a year could be avoided by checking the blood pressure, cholesterol, weight and lifestyle of 40-74 year olds. Jeremy Hunt, the Health Secretary, has said that 650 lives a year could be saved as a result of the NHS Health Checks.
